Hello, we’re Kurt and Denette Schaer.
We’ve served alongside each other in our 26+ years of marriage. Together, we’ve ministered to the lost, discipled the believing, and coached countless individuals and couples from all walks of life.
Prior to launching Broken for Better, we served in numerous ministry roles throughout the local church and Tampa Bay community—from senior associate pastor and director of ministry development to youth pastor, executive director of Faith Tampa Bay, mentor and friend. Every step of the way, we’ve prayed together, vision-casted and supported others throughout their journey.
On May 5, 2022, we stepped down from the ministry team at our home church and were commissioned into this new endeavor, Broken for Better, focused on restoring marriages.
Little did we know our ministry and marriage would be tested a few weeks later. On May 30, 2022, our youngest son, Logan, and his girlfriend passed away in a tragic car accident and went home to be with Jesus. It was then that Broken for Better took on a whole new meaning.
We believe we were handed an assignment—to use this tragedy as a means to share the gospel with the broken, hurting and wounded, and for heaven to look different through this non-profit ministry. And that often starts in the home, through healthy marriages and families.
As we turn the corner in 2023, we desire to use Broken for Better to meet others in real life moments—like this one—and for all marriages to see and experience all God has for them.
We’d love to help you, too. Wherever you are, whatever you’re facing. Let’s do this together.
